Celebrating Men’s Health Week

Men’s Health Week is a time to be aware of the health issues that men face in our society. While there have been many advancements in men’s health over the years, men still face a number of challenges. Let’s take a look at what Men’s Health Week means and how it can be used to spread awareness of healthcare issues that are still a problem for men all over the world.

Awareness of men’s health issues is extremely important as many adult males don’t get the help they need soon enough.

Here are a few ways men can take control of their health this week and beyond.

Recognize sleep issues

Men’s Health Week sheds light on the issue of inadequate sleep that can lead to chronic pain problems as well as accidents during waking hours. Our needs for sleep change as we age and awareness about the amount we need can help us better handle our sleep cycles.

Quit smoking

If you’ve ever wanted to quit smoking there is no better time than Men’s Health Week. Non-smokers have a decreased risk of heart disease, cancer, and lung disease. If you don’t feel you can quit on your own, talk to your doctor about the options available to you.

Get more exercise

Both aerobic and muscle strengthening exercises are important for adults. Men should get at least 2 to 3 hours of aerobic exercise such as walking or jogging each week. Don’t try to do everything at once and start slow if you don’t already exercise regularly.

Eat a healthy diet

A big concern for men in the United States is salt intake. Not only should you eat healthier foods such as fruits and vegetables, but reducing the amount of salt on your food can decrease the risk of issues related to high blood pressure.

Reduce stress

Speaking of blood pressure, the pressures of work and home life, as well as the drive to succeed, can lead to stress related illnesses. These can be prevented by paying special attention to your stress levels and seek help when needed.

How can you recognize Men’s Health Week and make improvements in your life?
